2021 Calendar: Practicing a World Beyond White Supremacy Culture

We have just endured such a year. Are you ok?  This is a truly formative time in human history and it is really hard.  There is no way but through.  I am feeling exhausted, and heartbroken and deeply moved and hopeful - in ways I've never felt before.  I am hopeful that some real societal growth and transformation of an unjust world is possible.  I believe that COVID-19 and the uprisings across the country have made fertile ground for learning and supporting each other in more ways than ever before.  I am a white, queer, middle-class cis woman living on unceded traditional lands of the Abenaki Nation - also known as Vermont.  This project feels like a prayer to me.  A spell.  An offering to the sacred in all of us.  I do not have a history with a particular faith or spiritual practice but I am starting to nourish something of that nature in the way I create art.  This year I have been listening to and learning from movement leaders, writers, activists, and healers. This collection of illustrations and thoughts are deeply informed by the work of so many of them. (See inside for comprehensive list of references and inspiration)

Each month corresponds to a different subject from “Characteristics of White Supremacy Culture” written by Tema Okun. These characteristics are things I wish to interrupt and unlearn inside myself and I am inviting you to practice this lifelong work with me.
